Central & North Thailand are often defined as the provinces located in the centrally-located plains of the Chao Phyraya River and divided from Isan & North-East Thailand, by the Phetchabun Mountain Range. The further north you go, the hillier it seems to get, with many hill-tribe villages sitting on the edges of high mountain cliffs and bluffs, in certain cases.

Central & Northern Thailand contains the capital city of Bangkok, which is where most tourists will base their travels. While South Thailand is popular for the many beaches, surrounding the Gulf of Thailand or coastal areas bordering the Andaman Sea, Central & Northern Thailand are more commercialized and populated, with modern, metropolitan areas.

There are plenty of tourist attractions to see in Central & North Thailand, although they may be historically and culturally appealing. The furthest point south will be on the coast of the Gulf, but most of those provinces are geared towards water activities and beach or island vacations.
